History of Kuzhuppilly Sree Mahadeva Temple

*OM NAMA SIVAYA *
Kuzhuppilly Mahadevar Temple is situated at Kuzhuppilly Village, Vypin Island,19kms away from Kochi City.

It is one of the rarest temples in which Siva & Parvathy is present in the same idol in equal strength facing west. Ganapathy, Sastha, Venna Kannan, Durga Bhagavathi, Nagaraja& Nagayekshi are other Sub Deities worshiped here.

The temple was built by the rulers of the Erstwhile Princely State of Kochi, they also built Kuzhuppilly Kovilakam, a palace for staying during the camp herein in connection with their temple visits. Sakthan Thampuran, the famed ruler of Kochi, on an advice of an astrologer from Pazhoor stayed days on end like an hermit at the temple & his stomach disease was cured by drinking the holy medicated water collected from here. For keeping the temple’s sanctity he even issued a Royal Proclamation [M.E.974] that no one should pollute the temple’s holy pond or well even by touching it.

Eight days "Thiruvathira Mahothsavam" is celebrated in the month of Dhanu.
